What Were You Doing This Time Last Year….?
My name is Liz, I’m a 44 year-old wife & mother of 3 children. A year ago I had a very painful back. It felt like boiling water was pouring down one of my legs from the centre of my back. I didn’t immediately go to the doctor, but carried on life as best I could. It was difficult to climb up & down stairs: as we live in a 3-storey house & I worked in a 3-storey building this was a challenge. The pain moved from one leg to the other & occasionally was felt down both legs. On one particular day at work when I was trying to hoover and do cleaning I ended up on my hands & knees to ease the pain. My back got worse & on seeing the doctor he diagnosed a slipped disc. My friend at church, Annette, kindly helped to relieve my back by massage & aromatherapy. She knew how bad it was when I got stuck trying to turn over on her couch, on one memorable occasion! I remember attending a family funeral in November last year. I stood in the church, leaning on the chair in front for support, pain going down both legs. I took painkillers that I was prescribed, but drew the line taking the Diazepam that was prescribed for the spasms I was suffering. My walking was greatly affected. I could not walk quickly. First thing in the morning I could only shuffle painfully to the bathroom. I could only stand for about a couple of minutes without pain. I always walked with a limp & the feeling went in one leg. I found out that the loss of feeling could be irreversible.
A healing meeting was planned for an evening service at church. I decided to ask for prayer afterwards. Gary, our pastor, called one of the members, Neil, who had been playing the guitar that night, over. Neil asked if one of my legs was shorter than the other. (He explained that this could affect the back.) I replied that it was, I had once been told to wear a wedge in the back of one of my shoes. In the mists of time that idea had long been abandoned. It was suggested that I sat on a chair, Neil supported the foot of my shorter leg in his hands and he & Gary prayed. I felt a pulling on my leg, but no one was pulling on my foot!! My leg actually grew. Afterwards both legs were the same length. God had answered prayer, making my leg grow !! I was so happy to be able to walk properly & to be free from pain. In the following weeks I was able to walk quicker & quicker. I can now jog if I want to. The ‘icing on the cake’ is that I have now noticed that the feeling is returning to my leg too.
God has done it all. Praise the Lord.
